Annual Christmas Letter Part 2 - The Surprise

Twas the night before Christmas when mom did arrive
She thought I was in London; I told many lies.
John, Michael and Debbie were in on the gig
I was so anxious I felt like doing a jig.

I phoned from the basement, the phone upstairs rang.
John said "hello, who is this?" he sang.
I said "ha ha ha, oh now aren't you quite funny?"
"Put mom on the phone, got butterflies in my tummy"

She said "hello Ty, how's London today?"
I said "I can't hear you, I'll try a  - nother way!"
I crept through the basement and then up the stair
'Til I was behind her with news I would share!

"Now can you hear me?" I chirped from behind
She gasped in surprise, in real life and my rhyme.
"What are you doing here?" was the first thing she said
Our eyes were quite teary and really quite red.

"Merry Christmas, dear mom", we all said together
"I'll be here for a while to enjoy the nice weather!"
She forgave me for lying oh so many times
There were far too many to include in this rhyme.

The surprise, it went off, without any delay
It sure made our Christmas, is the least I can say.
For those who were in on the secret, you rock.
She is hard to surprise, but we knocked off her sock!

It's a Christmas that sure will go down in the books
Much like the weather and the Alberta chinooks!
And that being said, this poem now will end
Blessings to family and all of my friends!
