Dear Friends and Family,
I'd like to start by saying the light at the end of one tunnel only leads to another tunnel through which one must travel. Having just concluded the second (of four) rounds of parent teacher conferences/report cards, what I thought would be a less busy week is anything but!
Regardless, a good week it shall be. See, that's me being positive! I shall try to do it a little more often. It may lead to tooth decay (all the sugary sweetness I will dish out) but a fresh new perspective it shall be! Tee hee hee. I sooooo funny!
Okay, so right now I am in my room in my apartment. See, it's Sunday, and having spent the better part of 9 hours at school, I figured home was where I needed to be. However, today is cleaning day, so as Ruby is busy in the other parts of the apartment, I am here, staying out of her way. Recent weeks I have spent my time cleaning the kitchen or doing laundry, but she just shakes her head at me and kicks me out of the kitchen or laundry room. I am far too spoiled!
Henry and I had a rather eventful afternoon this past Thursday. He hasn't been himself since moving to the new apartment. Now, don't think I'm a horrible kitty mamma! I realized I moved at the end of November, but remember that I was in Europe for a month (tee hee hee). Anywho, he's just not himself, so as any good kitty mamma would do I took the baby to the vet. Not sure about vets and such here I was a little worried about cost and such. What I learned was that the vet (recommended by the people from whom I adopted Henry) only charges about $6 to examine a cat...including running a few tests. Furthermore, I also learned that, aside from having a difficult time adjusting, Henry is just fine. Sooo, we keep trying. In recent days we've made some rather significant progress; first, Henry came to the sofa, on his own...even permitted me to pet him. Oh, I should fill you in why something so simple is significant. You see, on the way home from the vet we were waiting for the elevator when the bottom of Henry's cat kennel let go and down the poor bugger went. He's not an outside cat. He's a big chicken. My biggest fear was that he'd try to run away...but true to form, he hid in a corner and mewed ferociously until I scooped him up! So, hopping up on a couch for some cuddles...HUGE! Currently, he's pressed against the back of the vanity, ears pinned down, eyes half open! Do they have Valium for kitties... I think he could benefit!
OOOH! Big adventure on the weekend. I went to the Sultan Centre (Grocery Store) with my friend Angela. Why was it an adventure, you might ask? Because we DROVE there in her Pajero. Well, technically, Angela drove there, I was just a passenger. A couple of girls out on the town. Oh the adventure! Two thumbs up to Angela for her willingness to drive in this crazy town. The only people who might be able to compare to Kuwaiti drivers are the drivers in Italy! OOOOOH even bigger news...I found DILL PICKLE CHIPS. Yummy. Pringles brand, so they aren't all that perfect, but still!
Other perks of the week have been Tim Horton's coffee (thanks to my friend Stephanie who brought me a little care package when she was home); Gran's chocolate chip cookies...made a whole schwack and they were delicious. I'd been a trader and used the "chipets" recipe. I forgot how great these cookies were. Are we allowed to share the recipe???; hanging pictures in my apartment with the excellent help of Angela and her ENTIRE family...hanging pictures in concrete walls isn't as easy as one would think!; oooh, and lastly, the discovery of puffed wheat so now I can make puffed wheat cake. Being all domestic is one of the pure joys of life in Kuwait! If only enough puffed wheat for one cake didn't cost me about $15. Ouch! Mental note, bring puffed wheat from Canada!
This coming week will be a busy one too...practice tests for the ISA exam; finishing up a unit on electricity; starting a new unit in Math on adding and subtracting fractions (Did I mention that whoever thought I was qualified to teach math ought to have their head examined!!!) and of course the usual busy-ness of being a social butterfly in Kuwait (tea here, tea there! Tee hee hee)
Well, I suppose that's all for the moment. If there is anything I have forgotten, fear not, I shall make a deliberate point of adding extra posts. I think I shall go bake some cookies AND make some puffed wheat cake. YUMMY!
Lots of love to each of you!
G & T
p.s. No need to fear, I don't actually eat all the goodies I bake. I usually deliver them to friends or staff at work. It is more about the making it than the eating it.
