The Adventures of Grover and Tylene: European Inspiration...the first installment

From Wheat Fields to Oil Wells...European Inspiriation!

While on tour I took time at the end of each city to write about the experiences while there. The meter of my poem changed as I went, so I will try to post each entry so that, as you read, there will be a sense of rhythm there.

From Kuwait to Ireland to Amsterdam
December it came, I knew that it would
I was getting quite ansy; would wait if I could.
But school let out and I guess so did I
When I got on a place to Ireland I'd fly.

I left on the 8th at the dawn's early morn
My big winter jacket I was glad to have worn.
For once I arrived at the Dublin Airport
I was in for a shock...nice, warm weather was short

I bundled up tight and I went on my way
Some visits with friends, well, they sure made my day.
Ireland's countryside...I saw quite a bit;
And within me the travel bug was officially lit.
From Ireland to London is where I went then;
And it rained and it rained, would it stop? Sure, but when?
Saturday's rain, it went on through the night
But some clear, rainless skies arrived in the light.

I went around London to see all the sights,
I sat on the top of a bus, yup, that's right.
I saw things like Big Ben...you know, that's the bell!
And I also saw bridges that I didn't know well.

Two days and two bus trips is all that I did
For quickly time flew and to stop it, no lid.
To London I'll travel way back there some time
Once I make more money; it costs quite a dime!

Then Monday, it started, the great Europe trip;
And to Amsterdam first is where I went to skip!
There I spent two nights, I'm alone in a room.
Maybe I'll learn to weave things on a loom!

Amsterdam's fun, well, it can be at least;
If you don't get consumed by the drug and sex beast.
I spent the first night on a walk about time
The Red Light District's sad, it makes not a great rhyme.

On day two I went first to see how to make Cheese.
Then Caesar, he made real wooden clogs, jeez!
It was very cool, right in front of my eyes;
And once shoes were done it was time for good-byes.

Next, to the city, the bus drove us in
And went on to Anne's house - there was no time to grin!
Her story's amazing, it sure touched my heart
I am glad to have shared in that history in part!

The last part of day one and day two of the trip;
Was a four course great dinner and some beer just to sip.
The night it did close with a late evening cruise;
I am certain that many had way too much booze.
Now tomorrow we'll leave and go onto Berlin
Though a lond ride ahead, there will be less chance to sin!
For things are more strict in the Germany land.
I hope there is snow and a great German band!

Dear Ty, What fun to read the high (and low?) lights of your Christmas vacation! I was looking forward to it but didn't expect you'd have it posted so soon after returning. A DKG sister alerted me and again expressed appreciation for how entertainingly you write. What a woman - creative AND disciplined (to keep up a journal throughout the trip)! You disillusioned me about Paris and Amsterdam but tweaked my interest in other cities. I'm glad you had the courage to leave the tour and take some extra time for Rome and the Vatican. You're becoming a citizen of the world. You're quite right; one can spend more time in places about which one wants to see and learn more by taking a teaching position there. I hope you are now rid of that nasty 'cold' and are planning your next vacation trip. So nice to see your new home. Contiue to enjoy Ikea, lucky duck! Lots of love, Lynn
