The Adventures of Grover and Tylene: The light is fading...

Greetings all from Sunny Kuwait,

Okay, really it's been raining for two days, but today the sun is actually shining. Last week it was so hot the children were pleading for the air conditioning to be turned back on. It was switched on sometimes this past weekend. Now, with all the damp, cool weather brought on by the rain, they are begging for the AC to be turned off. The temperatures are probably high teens, if not higher, but I am comfortable in my heavy knit sweater and long pants...however will I adjust back to life in Saskatchewan!

At any rate, since I last wrote life has been ticking along. I visited the Iranian Souk for the first time on the weekend. It was a real find! That's a place that I could go a little crazy, if left on my own for too long. When mom comes to visit, we'll definitely take a trip there to play with all the fun things...shipping things home is becoming more of a possibility!

I also came as close to hell as I would ever like to...The Avenues Mall on a Friday evening. It was quite the experience. I've also decided that when mom comes to visit that I will also take her to experience the sights and sounds of shopping in Kuwait on Fridays. Mind you, we'll hunker down at Starbucks and people watch, rather than trying to actually brave the crowd and craziness that is shopping. It is one of the most peculiar parts of the culture...the shopping!

Hmmm, what else. I made home-made mac and cheese the other day for dinner. Now, you might be thinking, "Tylene, you're living in the desert, do you really have nothing more exciting to tell us about than making home-made mac and cheese?" But really, it was quite exciting. You see, it involved making a white sauce, and substituting Cheddar and Mozzarella Cheese for Velveeta Cheese. Anywho, it was quite tasty if I do say so myself. Craving such comforts of home might be indicative (ooohh, big word) of being somewhat homesick. Meh, only 4 trips before I will return for the summer. Yes, that's right. Four more grand adventures before I head back to Saskatchewan. It's quite fun when you think of your time as your travel destinations.

February will bring a 4 day weekend at the end of the month as we celebrate Liberation Day and National Day. It will also bring a 3 night/four day trip to Dubai. Should be exciting times. Then, the following week is the celebration for the Prophet Mohamad's birthday...that means a three day weekend in Bahrain. Easter...I mean Spring break is a toss up between jetting back to London for a bit, going to Egypt or checking out Jordan...I'm leaning toward Jordan, but am willing to take suggestions. Finally, a three day weekend in May will be a little trip to somewhere close by...hmmm, maybe back to Qatar or perhaps Istanbul! The options are really limitless, but we'll see what the time brings.

And on that note, I best sign off, go print off the materials I sent to the photocopier and get my kidlets from Phys Ed. It will be a busy last 40 minutes of the day. Mondays always are!

Wishing you each a wonderful week. Oooh, it's Groundhog Day!!! How'd the little gaffer do???

Lots of love

Hi, Ty,
Oh, you make me green with your plans to travel! I look forward to hearing all about each trip - and your daily life in the desert, too. Comfort food is a feature of February in SK, too. And making white sauce for a number of dishes is a long standing family tradition so you are connecting with home on a number of levels. Do you do baking powder biscuits, too? That's the other basic skill. I'm glad we're in touch so I could learn about your Mother's plan to visit you!! You may be the one who convinces her that there's more to life.... I'm in the depths of planning the DKG conference for 23 May. Sorry you can't come but really hope she can. Lots of love, Lynn
