Three more get ups to go...

Greetings, faithful blog readers!

It's true, we're three get ups away from another holiday.  This time it is Eid al Adha.  That translates into "Tylene gets a whole week off the second week of November, which means that there are only 6 more weeks of school until Christmas holidays".  Am I excited?  Yes!  I would probably be more excited if I were traveling to some exotic local, but really, at this point, there is no where I'd rather be than in my garden!  I know, it's lame, but true.

It's been a busy first quarter.  Report cards go home on Thursday.  Hard to believe we're into November already.  It was a positively wonderful day today.  We did all our Halloween stuff last Thursday, so today was just basically a normal day...actually, it was totally a normal day.  Oh how I love normal days.

My only international student will be leaving us today or tomorrow.  Her father has been transfered, so they will be returning to Argentina.  It will be sad to see her go, but I am sure she will have a wonderful time.  Her family spent a number of years in Argentina prior to coming to Damascus and she has fond memories there.  It's just unfortunate that she is leaving now.  I guess that is the reality of international teaching, isn't it.

Grad school is ticking along.  I must say that I hope to enjoy my next class more than I am enjoying my current class.  I didn't think for a minute that my curriculum foundations class would be one that I absolutely dread.  Oh well, only two more modules and a paper to go.  During the Eid break, I plan to work on my ethics module so it is completed long before I begin my research.

Unfortunately, there isn't much new to report!  The baby kitties are hording all the food. It is getting chilly, so I caved and gave them an old blanket to sleep on.  The street cat who comes for a meal now and then took to sleeping on the rag that Naema uses to clean my deck.  When I saw one of the kittens fast asleep on the gladware lid, I figured it's just a little too cold on that marble patio.  Yes, I know, I am a sucker.

Well, Halloween has come, gone, come again and is on it's final way out.  i am looking forward to my break and looking forward to my birthday weekend in Kuwait.  Until then, I shall keep on trucking along.

Blog soon,

Ty

Dear Tylene,
This is Hallowe'een Day here. I like Hallowe'en again now that I don't have my own kids to costume, myself to costume and Hallowe'en parties to plan with my students! We may have 4 or 5 kids here for treats. Simple! In NZ Hallowe'en seemed to be more an adult event which seemed strange to me. Street (temporary stalls) vendors wearing ghoulish costumes selling or renting a wide variety of adult costumes. I didn't seek an opportunity to go to a school to see if there were children party-ing in costume so I can't say there weren't.
Yeah - right! Your heart is not melted by the garden kitties!! You kid your friends; I'll kid mine.
I'm guessing your Mom told you all about the Middle Eastern lunch we cooked for the DKG gals and about the recent CW4WA tour. I bought a purple silk tunic and wore it for the lunch. Your Mom wore her black gown from Kuwait. It was an international event! I'll send you pictures.
Lots of love, Lynn

Hey... coverage on Syria is getting a little more heated. It seems, from your blog, that all is good and you are safe. We hope so! Love, Ang
