Butterball, how I love thee

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We had a nice, quiet Thanksgiving in Damascus.  We being the three Canadian folk.  Cathy, Paul and I shared a low key turkey dinner on Saturday night.  The chef at the school made arrangements for a turkey and pumpkin.  I was holding my breath.  You might remember the saga of last year's turkey - you know, the one with the neck still attached.  I was most relieved when the "little" turkey I requested turned out to be a 5.6 kg BUTTERBALL!  The pumpkin was all cut up too.  I am spoiled, it is true.  Both the little turkey and the pumpkin came to just under $40.00!  What a steal.

We had this past Thursday off.  It was Tishreen Liberation Day - a day celebrating the retreat of France from Syria.  I focused on school work on Thursday, baked buns and pumpkin pie on Friday (STILL LOVE MY NEW MIXER...She needs a name...will think on that) and then relaxed for the rest of the day. Watched Glee Friday night (up to date with the current season).  Cathy and I also watched X Factor (which I can't say I love) and Survivor (which promised a surprise but was a huge let down).  Saturday morning we went with Khaled from school to get our deck furniture.  I now am the proud owner of a table and four chairs.  Someday I will also have a porch swing, but for now I'm just fine with the chairs.  We were going to have Thanksgiving dinner on the patio, but there was too much food to fit on the table outside!

Turkey was almost uneventful.  It had what looked like haemorrhoids (I don't know if that is spelled correctly) and the neck was still frozen inside.  I called Cathy (because I hadn't bought my rubber gloves when I saw it was a butterball) and she came to my rescue.  Thank goodness!

The pumpkin pie was delightful.  I will never make pie from a can again.  Sadly, we (Cathy and I) just finished the last piece. Do you think the nutritionist will understand three days of turkey dinner?  Here's hoping!

Well, sadly I don't have much more to report.  Will officially be heading to Kuwait for the long weekend in November (which happens to coincide with my birthday this year!)  Should be a fun trip.

Until next time, I shall sign off.  Henry is indicating his displeasure with Cathy's presence in his house at night! However, he has settled for cuddles on the sofa!  We'll see how long that last.

Happy Thanksgiving.  Love to one and all!

Ty
