Well, my birthday week has come and gone. It was a great week filled with food, fun and friends. I hosted a dinner party for eight (including myself). Menu included spaghetti, meatsauce and tomato sauce for those who like it meatless, garlic bread, caear salad and of course, chocolate cake for dessert. The last guests left at 5:30 Thursday morning. It was really a great time. We karaoked and played guitar hero all night. Was a crazy, fun time. My party was followed by the Thanksgiving celebrations that the American staff hosted. It was held at the school - catered by our cafeteria staff. It was a pot luck - sort of.
All in all, last weekend was one to go down in the books. I started writing this the other day and then went back to finish today, but what I wrote made no sense at all. So now I try to get back onto the same brain wave length and finish off this week's post. I hope everyone is noticing how very dedicated I have been to blogging this year. Far moreso than last year.
Alright, back to the weekend. Birthday Wednesday Night/Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon was American Thanksgiving celebrations at the school that concluded with card playing well into the evening. Friday was a quiet day - catching up on sleep and such. Then I went over to Chad and Lindsey's to watch The Graduate - had never seen it before and it was nothing like I thought it would be, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Saturday - hmmm I don't remember what I did Saturday, maybe groceries, maybe recovered from the other two days that weekend. And speaking of weekends, I've decided that, while long weekends are great, they make for an even longer week to follow - soooo sleepy from lack of sleep.
As you all know, Sunday was Grey Cup Sunday. I came home from school with the intention of napping before our 1:30 a.m. start, but found myself in the kitchen making all sorts of Grey Cup treats - cookies, poppycock, granola bars, popcorn. Was lots of fun, but before I knew it, the door bell rang and guests were arriving. We went to a great little art cafe for a late dinner and returned to the school in time for kickoff. I did stay up and watched the whole game. We were watching online, so the streaming quality wasn't the greatest, but we got the gist of the game. Sadly, the morning came and there was no Grey Cup. Regardless, I would do it again (and probably will next year). An all nighter made for a really long day on Monday. I had choir practice on Monday night, so I stayed until 9:00 before heading home and crashing for the night.
We've had two of our staff members lose a family member in recent weeks. Our staff has really come together to offer support. Yesterday many of us boarded a bus and went to offer condolences. While the tradition is different, the sentaments offered remain the same.
The rest of the week should be fairly easy. I start voice lessons today. I am looking forward to it very much. My voice teacher is in the choir the choir. She is just returning to Syria, so that is why I am just getting started on lessons now. We will work together to get my voice back to where it once was...inshallah.
Progress reports go out this week and I am ahead of the game. They are already finished, have been proof read by the principal, errors corrected and resent. I will get to sit back and enjoy the rest of the week while others are frantically trying to get their progress reports finished. Thursday is a half day of instruction - students are dismissed at noon so that teachers can use the remaining time to finish progress reports. Maybe I'll use the time to decorate my classroom for Christmas.
The tree has been set up at home, though I have to get lights, so it is not year decorated. I will hopefully have it all ready to come come this weekend. I'll be home in 18 days - can't hardly believe it.
Love and peace to each and all. Until next time.
Tylene
