It's Monday afternoon and I am just waiting for the day to end. Most Mondays I enjoy the fact that I don't teach in the afternoon, however, today it is a bit of a downer. I don't teach in the afternoon AND I have a parent conference at 3:15 AND I start a five day weekend just as soon as I am done here at school :) I am very much looking forward to the holiday ahead.
It is Eid Al Adha - the greater Eid. I am excited to have some time to myself. I have stocked up on knitting and sewing supplies and will probably spend the week doing just that - knitting and sewing. I will be a little social from time to time, but it's hard to know how social I will be. Perhaps an easy dinner with friends, perhaps an outing to the old city from time to time - we'll play it by ear.
The week has been a good one. I have discovered, though that I haven't been much of a tourist here. I don't have many pictures at all of Damascus...perhaps that will be one of the things that I rectify this week while I am on vacation - taking pictures is what people do on vacation, right? Students are certainly ready for a break. An informal poll would suggest that most students will be staying in Damascus for the break. However, plans could change with a moment's notice.
I've lost my voice (again). I think it's just the reality of the whole thing. It's here until it's not and then it comes back when it does. As long as there isn't pain or big things growing in my throat I am good to go. Taking it easy this week will certainly help. I must admit, though, that I am tired (beyond tired) of people telling me how to "fix" my voice. Hello people, it's not a sore throat. It is what it is. I realize that most people don't know what's wrong with my voice, but still! I'm not the type of person who goes around telling people what they need to do to be healthy. Maybe I just need to be a little more patient - or explain to people, when they offer suggestions, that I don't have a sore throat, that lemon and honey will not fix it over night and that eating ice cream has no impact on the vocal cords (which is the problem). Yes, that is what I'll do.
Okay, enough of this griping. I will send my students off to Phys. Ed. momentarily and then have the rest of my day to straighten up. I've also decided that I will take a trip back to school over the next few days. You know the feeling of getting ahead on filing and such - that's the plan. A very low key, low effort extended weekend. Whoot whoot. As my cleaning lady comes on Wednesday, maybe Wednesday will be my school day...a later start to the day will be nice. Oooh, and I could watch all my programs at school instead of at home - that will also be great fun.
And that is one long winded-babbling sort of blog, but at least I'm keeping y'all posted on my fun life.
Wishing you a wonderful week. Riders are in the Western Final (if you haven't already heard) I am most excited to see if they win...I'm making plans for a Grey Cup party if they do.
Until next time...
Ty
