It's hard to feel in the Easter Spirit when things like Cadbury Mini-Eggs and Easter Cream Eggs are nowhere to be found. Regardless, Easter has come and, at least within the context of the Church, will last for another 6 weeks or so!
Spring break started the week before Easter for us. I spent much of the time resting, relaxing and working out at the Corniche. It was a good week, despite the dusty days that are far too common in Kuwait. Today is a yellow day, and wouldn't you just know it - I'm on duty. I vote that if the children with breathing issues aren't allowed to go outside during yellow days that the poor teachers in the same predicament shouldn't need to do supervision. I know, whine whine!
Good Friday was spent baking buns and sticky buns. Sadly, neither turned out as good as mom's, but I did my darnedest. Someday I'll get the knack. Mom and I will have to spend time this summer practicing this fine art - thank goodness for air conditioning. In the meantime, I'll keep on trying to get the right texture from my dough - mom thinks it might not have anything to do with me, but more of an issue with altitude and working with a gas oven...practice makes perfect, right!
On Holy Saturday I had Easter Brunch with Angela and Rob and the kids. It was a lot of fun- complete with Xavier's own version of the Amazing Race. The kids also brought me a little treat from Dubai - Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs. Delicious. Just need to work extra hard at the gym :) Brunch was very yummy - Angela made a quiche, and thanks to friends in high places we enjoyed REAL BACON and SAUSAGES (it is worthy of capital letters!) I made schwarty's hash browns and they were tasty. I also took cinnamon buns and granola bars for dessert. We were well fed, that is for sure.
Easter Sunday was more festivities. I went to Nadine, David and Anna's house for pancakes, eggs and sausages. Another tasty time of fun and fellowship. As my days in Kuwait draw to a close, I realize more and more how much I will miss some of the people I have grown so close to in the 2 years that I've been here. As always, there is a reason for being in the place we end up - I think these fantastic people are just that reason.
After a 2 hour work-out at the gym last night (Easter Sunday) I gave my family a call. Was glad to talk to the whole crowd. I miss them very much - and even though some find it more challenging than others to say they miss me too (ahemmmm.....brothers ;)) I will be glad to be home to bug, I mean spend time with them all.
Well, the bell's about to ring which means I should make my way to the dusty world. 30 minutes in the dust - let's hope it doesn't completely mess me up. I hope you had a wonderful Easter. Looking forward to a visit soon!
