So, I'd thought that living in Saskatchewan I'd seen all the diverse weather patterns that one can expect...you know the kind; a bright and clear fall day that turns into a cold and blustery winter day within a few hours. Yesterday we had one of those sort of days...there was no snow but still, big weather changes.
Yesterday started off nice enough...it's getting cooler now, but still not as cool as I remember last year being. We still need to use our A.C. At any rate, the day was nice, but by mid-afternoon the sky started changing. You know the way the sky looks when a tornado is on the way...well the sky gets an eerie colour when we have a dust storm on the way. It doesn't get red until the storm hits, but in the hours before it changes. Needless to say, we knew it was coming.
Then last night not only do I hear dust slamming against my windows, but I also hear thunder and rain. It was a bizarre combination. Needless to say, today things are coated in a thin layer of dust and stuck to everything (Thanks rain). It will be more than just a sweep to get things clean up.
As I was walking through campus today it hit me just how much work our cleaning staff has when we have such storms. Our campus isn't closed like most schools are...rather we have an open facility. Our classrooms are closed, but middle school and high school hallways are "outside". Makes for a lot of floor area that needs to be cleaned up.
Outside of dust and rain, life is pretty typical in Kuwait. I am behind on my marking but have 4 hours of prep time today (including recess and a class my music teacher wanted to make up due to our field trip on Monday) I am fairly confident that I will be able to make a significant dent in it. It will save me from having to spend hours here this weekend. Hurrah!
We're just 8 days away from Eid Al Adha break. It will be a great little break before Christmas. Last year this break was in December and that was why we had the month off. This year, we'll have our break now and then again we'll break for Christmas on the 17th. I can't complain too much about the holidays. That is for sure!
Well, I suppose I ought to get to marking. It's not going to check itself. I hope to spend this weekend sewing as much as I can. We'll see how that works out. I also have 2 cakes to bake for and event our school is hosting. So much to do, so little time!
I hope you are all well. I look forward to hearing from you really soon!
Ty
