Eid Mubarek.
Well, Ramadan is over and so is the need to refrain from food and water in public during daylight hours. So very exciting. I am looking forward to my next walk WITH a water bottle. It's one thing to walk when it's 40 degrees. It's quite another to do so and not be allowed to drink water.
The downfall is that due to the fear of H1N1, the water fountains and coolers at school are shut off...as such I have to drink bottled water...which isn't expensive, I just think it's silly. Oh well, what am I going to do? Abstain from water? I think not.
Later today I will be heading to the Corniche. It's a fancy, schmancy gym/club/private beach that I joined. Yup...I'm one of "those" people now. Actually, it's a really nice little get-away from the regular day to day times in Kuwait. Trees, grass, sandy beaches, pools, gyms, it's all really quite loverly. Today I will attempt my first pump class...can't tell you too much about it, but I'll fill you in next week after I've spent a week there.
We are on holidays for the week...it's Eid. I am glad to have stayed in Kuwait. There are a number of my friends who also stayed here. I am having a good time getting to spend some quality time with them. This morning I went to Angela and Rob's to enjoy breakfast. It was a "thank you" breakfast for Xavier's birthday cake. Soooo delicious (the cake and the breakfast) I had bacon and sausage...they have connections...good people to be friends with, and if all it takes for some bacon is space shuttle cake and the solar system...so beit. It was delicious.
Tuesday I'll be heading to the border, Inshallah. If all goes well, Mel and Jason, Rob and Angela and the kids and I will be travelling in a convoy to the Iraq border. It will be a great time, I'm sure. No need to fear...we're not going shopping for the day in Baghdad or anything...I mean really, there is a war going on. But we are going to go for a drive in the desert. It will be an experience to write home about, that is for sure.
The third week of school was good. I still have three students who are missing, although I did find out that one of them will be away for another month as he is having heart surgery. Good to know...if only one could be informed of this prior to the end of the day the last day before the break. Nothing like scrambling to get homework together. I have also discovered that it's one thing to prepare homework for someone who has been to class, and quite another to prepare homework for someone who hasn't come at all.
Oooh, exciting news...my microphone works. It's delightful. It only took about two weeks to get it under control, but still...it works. Mario, our sound tech for the auditorium figured out that the problem was a power supply issue and had nothing to do with the receiver itself, so he went out and bought a new power cord that could be grounded...since then it works like a charm.
Hmmm, what other sort of rambling randomness can I share with you today...it will be a fairly quiet week, I am sure. A few trips to the school, but other than that just chillaxing by the pool. I live such a hard life in the desert. Really, there ought to be some perks, right?
Well, I hope you are all well. Stay tuned for more adventures. Grover would like me to tell you that he's doing well. He's been enjoying his time as "classroom monitor". He has little to do this year in comparison to last year. He's ready to plan a trip somewhere fun, though not sure when that will happen. He'll definately be around when we are in Dubai at Christmas. Mmmm, Christmas, the next time I'll get to have bacon...mmmm
Anywho, much love to you all. I will talk to you soon.

Hi, Tylene,
It's Fowl Supper season in SK. Ours was yesterday and the neibouring congregation's will be next Sunday. Do you wish you were here?! I doubt I'll get G to eat turkey again for Thanksgiving! Are you planning another Canadian Thanksgiving?
Our renovations are progressing - slowly - the "boys" can only work out here on weekends and of course they also need time with their families! The septic tank guys are finished their part but not until they broke one of our power lines moving the backhoe out - 5 hours without electricity. Amazing how dependent we have become - I felt it was a wasted day!
First meeting of DKG was on Saturday - brunch at The Willows and reconnecting with one another. Lovely - wish you could have flown in for it!Membership fee is due ($100.) STB will be initiated this Fall and I'm hoping your Mom will go for reinstatement.
Looking forward to your next installment,
Lots of love, Lynn
