Well, it's been more than a week since I last wrote...same on me. At any rate, I figured while I had a moment or two I'd take some time to fill you in on life in the desert.
We're starting to cool off here temperature wise. Daily highs rarely reach 38 anymore and our evening temperatures have a definite chill. I know...mid - high 20s doesn't could as "chill worthy", but it's life.
Last week was our Eid Al Fitr holiday. I stayed in Kuwait and had a loverly time. I joined the Corniche (which I think I told you last week...fancy gym/club). I made it to my four workouts that I had planned for. I was very glad to have had that chance. It was a great introduction to life at the Corniche. I look forward to lounging by the pool once the weather gets a wee bit cooler. What I have discovered is that when outside for extended periods of time, I still can burn here!
I also spent the week visiting with friends and of course resting. Did a lot of resting during the week. Was glad to have done so because it's been a crazy week with coming back to a regular school day (7:45 - 2:30), open house night, staff meetings and so on. I have enjoyed having the longer instructional day. You won't believe how much work you can accomplish when you have a full hour for class. Delightful.
School is going great. I have a wonderful group of students. They are eager and excited. We've been practicing the school song. Tomorrow we have assembly and since I can't sing, my class will be leading the school. They are SOOO excited. Each day they remind me "Miss, we haven't practiced our song yet..." At the end of the day I use the last 5 minutes or so to run through. Often, even though the bell has rung, they ask for "Just one more time". Enjoying my class and liking my job is making this year soooo much more manageable. What a difference a year makes!
Things are trucking along just swiftly. In just 8 more weeks I will be off on yet another holiday...still not sure if I will travel, but am excited nonetheless. I probably shouldn't mention that in two weeks we have a three day teaching week...you'll begin to think that I don't do ANYTHING other than vacation.
I think I've chatted with y'all about playing fetch with Ella. I really thought that it was a random fluke, but she is hard core. Sometimes I have to stop the came so she can catch her breath. Her poor little heart just throbs sometimes. But she loves it. It's our "special" time together (aside from a multitude of snuggles). Henry has warmed up quite a bit since i returned home. Granted it took him 3 weeks to acknowledge that I was allowed in his house. He is back to h is evening ritual of "Hey, I'm ready to sleep...could you please go to bed. I'd like to snuggle up RIGHT beside you". It sounds more like a rather pained meow, but when push comes to shove, the earlier translation applies.
Oooh, I almost forgot. Canadian Thanksgiving is just around the corner. There were whispers floating around asking if I was planning on hosting Thanksgiving dinner again. There were many excited at the prospect. This year, my friend Stephanie and I will be hosting together. She's never prepared a Thanksgiving dinner and would like to learn from my "expertise". Trust that I will have mom's "step by step" instructions for Thanksgiving dinner on hand. They are tucked safe away in the recipe box. Stephanie has a huge kitchen, great counter space, a big fridge and a huge stove. As such, we'll have dinner there. I might have to take my entire kitchen over to prepare it, but it is worth it. Dinner will be on Saturday, October 10th. I am very excited to have the chance to cook with Stephanie.
And that's about all she wrote. As I listen to call to prayer, I am surprised at how dark it has become. It is only 5:50, but it is as dark as night. Strangely enough, the sun is up by 6 most days, but sets so darned early.
I wish each of you a wonderful week. More to come as Thanksgiving preparations are underway.
Much Love
Tylene
