The New Adventures of Old Tylene...after the first week...

Ole, ole, ole, ole, ole, ole, ole, ole...it's hot hot hot!

Hee hee hee. I might not be able to sing, but I'm still gonna put a song in your head. Hee hee hee.

At any rate, now that I have that out of my system, I'm happy to report that after one week in Kuwait I have not packed up my kitties and my possessions and fled for home. I have had a pretty good week, all things considered. School is off and running. I am still missing about 5 students, but what can you expect when every day in the newspaper it has plastered over the front page that school will be closed until December. But we are trucking through.

So far I have a really great class. Lots of really like kids. I also have a nice mix of boys and girls which is really great. Now to just get my silly microphone to work all the time. As it is, I only "talk" in the morning. All my specialists are in the afternoon. As such, with the exception of DEAR time, I am finished teaching by 11:45. Keep in mind that it's Ramadan, so I will have to work longer hours in a couple weeks, but for now it's a nice break.

Last night I was able to see my surgeon again. It was good to be able to see a doctor who is familiar with the case. At any rate, we are working a few angles so that I will be feeling better. As for the voice...he's still very optimistic that it will come back...I just need to be extra patient. I don't really like patience, as a virtue. Wonder if I'm supposed to be learning something from all this "patience" practice...hmmm

All in all, the first week as a good week. There are, of course, many things to iron out, but it will all come together shortly. I guess that's what the beginning of the year is always like. I spent a lot of my time reminding students (and better yet...having students remind me) of our classroom procedures. Teaching brings on a whole new take when you can't raise your voice to get the attention of 20 little darlings.

And that is life in a nutshell. I hope that you are all well. The kitties are alright. Ella is, well, Ella...full of energy and life. Henry is Eeyore...he's getting to be an old man and is quite content when I leave him alone. Not sure why he runs whenever I try to pet him...maybe he has finally come to associate me with "The lady who takes him to the vet...and that is the horrible place they stick things in places they shouldn't!" Who knows. I make sure to see him every day though, I figure he'll eventually come around...or at least, I hope.

Until next time, I will sign off. Heading out to the grocery store. One of the great things about being a Christian in a Muslim state is that Iftar, the traditional breaking of the fast meal during Ramadan, is a great time to go for groceries...everyone is busy eating.

Will talk to you soon.

Hi, Ty,
The men are busy with the renovation of our main floor bathroom, which began with demolition of all that was, necessary due to water damage to the roof which was also the floor of the second floor balcony. They say that renovations are always fraught with surprises but that's little comfort when one is in the midst of it all!
SK is having beautiful harvest weather. I never expected to hear you say it's too hot!
I'm glad Ramadan is affording you a gradual start to the school year. Watch that Grover - he might be thinking he could take over the classroom for you. Remember what the little monkey did with the blogsite last year?
Sending all kinds of positive thoughts your way for recovery of voice and energy. Where are you travelling to on your next school break?
Take care of you.
Love, Lynn
