This past week I've been in Bangkok at an Understanding by Design conference. It was a great conference and I learned a lot. It's funny how, even when you know something, when you take the time to explore it a little more, just how much more there is to learn. My brain was very full by the end of the third day, but now I have a little time to process what I learned.
Unfortunately, I haven't been spending too much time out and about in Bangkok. Shortly after my arrival, a curb got the better of my ankle. Well, rather it was the road as I stepped off the curb that got the better of my ankle. So, after a trip to the emergency, at which point I was directed immediately to orthopaedics department, I am sporting a lovely green cast. Today I am feeling a little better - able to do a little walking without the crutches, but just around the house - not much beyond that. I will check in tomorrow with the ortho and see what the next plan will be. At any rate, a city like Bangkok is meant to be seen on foot - so I guess I will just have to come back again.
That being said, I have ridden in a Tuk Tuk, been to the front lines of two protest sites (not intentionally - the taxi driver was desperately trying to get me home. A trip that took 10 minutes on Tuesday morning took about an hour on Tuesday afternoon - Wednesday and Thursday taxi adventures were much less exciting.) I've eaten the most delicious fish & chips. I've visited a first-rate hospital, and left with a cast that is Rider green! I've had some yummy pizza. I've made contact with some excellent people at the conference. AND, last but not least, I have had the chance to spend a week with a great friend.
The last few weeks have been rather busy. School takes up the standard amount of time. As does procrastinating on writing the second second of my paper. Going to the gym had been a wonderful past time in recent weeks, but I suppose that will likely have a bit of a damper now. Hmmm, i wonder if I can still do a pump class with a cast on my foot. I don't like lunges any way, so it would be the perfect way to bypass that awful track. AND, I'm not really using my foot when I do squats...perhaps I will give it a go!
It's hard to believe January is over. As I sit here typing, it's the 31st. Tomorrow is February (I know, not a startling revelation since, for as long as I can remember, February 1st has followed January 31st). Regardless, time passes so quickly. It seems as though we were just getting back from Winter Break, and here we are, another month finished.
I'm not sure that I have any more exciting news to report, but did want to take the opportunity to fill everyone in on my news. I've included a few pictures from my Bangkok trip. Those of you who are in Saskatchewan, I hope you're finding fun ways to keep warm!

| Rider Pride, alive and well in Bangkok. They didn't have the Rider logo, but it was awfully nice of them to have Rider green in stock! |
| My first Tuk Tuk ride. We went to a place called Oskar for dinner. They had rye. I like rye! |

Hi, Tylene,
Your Mom mentioned over the weekend that you had earned another cast (we attended a SSO concert and had a sleepover). I would have known if I had read your blog. Pretty cast and pretty bruise - ouch!
CONGRATS on your new position!! Enjoy the preparation for the new job and the anticipation of your convocation and a summer OFF.
Beautiful sunshine today and it's only -25. The birds at the bird feeder are driving Myrtle nuts, but not enough to entice her outside for some exercise and fresh air.
Lots of love, Lynn
