Before you start getting all uppity about the fact that it has been ages since I last wrote, please know that the reasons for said delay in correspondence are noteworthy. Thus, I am sitting down tonight, while I have but a spare moment, and blogging to keep you all in the loop about my delightfully fun and exciting life. Ready? Here we go?
I last wrote on September 11th, so it's been just over a month...not too horrible. What follows is tale of woe and wizardry. Okay, maybe it won't contain either woe nor wizardry, but I really liked the alliteration. Let's try again, what follows is a tale of fun and frivolity. Okay, that isn't the case either, but perhaps it will be of interest regardless.
The start of the school year has sort of been a whirl wind. Report cards are just around the corner, parent conferences are on Friday, and here we are, wrapping up October.
My time is spent with planning (mainly math - because I strongly dislike Math, have to teach Math, and have decided to use Math as my personal growth plan for this year. I am hoping that my growth in math instruction and crap will look more like a beautiful orchid, but worry that it will end up like some dumb-ass chia pet. We'll see how it all turns out. The children are only in 4th grade. They have at least another 8 years of Math instruction to make up for my shortcomings, right :) I know, that is not very positive talk, but it is sort of how I feel!
In addition to developing new units for Math, I am working on my Masters. I have completed my three interviews with the most FANTASTIC participants a research could ever ask for. I have transcribed my interviews and have started to reflect on common themes that appear throughout the three. Now, where it gets tricky is that I'm supposed to be coding little things that lead me to the overarching themes, creating all sorts of poster board displays and colour coding crap. I know I've now used crap twice, but I am saving all my great words for my academic work. At any rate, I don't quite understand the "coding" process. I can read it, get it and then be completely dumb-founded when I try to do it! I'll be chitter chatting with my prof tomorrow via skype and hopefully after that conversation I will be able to find better direction.
On top of Math and Masters, I'm also recruiting for a new job. It's an incredibly intense process. It takes up far too much time and requires infinite patience. We'll see where the future takes me. Perhaps I will remain here for one more year...that would be my ideal situation in many ways. Time will tell. At any rate, because there are no certainties in this world, I continue with the recruitment. I've applied for a number of excited possibilities...but shall keep all of that under wraps for now :)
When I'm not Mathing, Mastering, or recruiting, I'm teaching. My class is quite the handful this year. There are only 10 little people, but they are really quite challenging. They keep things interesting, that is for sure!
Outside of school, life is pretty low key. For the past two weeks, I've been without my dear Rose. She had to take off some time due to illness. I am beyond glad that she has returned. Don't get me wrong, I managed just fine. I cooked two turkeys, mopped the floor, did laundry (and had another nanny help out with a big clean once a week). As great as it is to have Rose for all the nanny-ish things, it is just really nice not coming home to an empty house.
I've been trying to be a little more balanced in terms of having a social life. That translated into hosting Thanksgiving Dinner on the 13th. I had a nice crowd out and people really enjoyed the meal. I really do love getting to cook. I also really enjoy not having to cook all the time :)
I've also been more diligent to getting to the gym. My shoulder is on the mend and as it gets better I feel less frustrated at the gym. I am hoping to try out a Body Pump class this week, though I need to be very careful not to overdo it. I'm trying to listen to my body a little more. I'm almost 40 - I am starting to become aged! hee hee hee.
Well, I think that is about all that I have to report. Here are a few pics from weeks past. They are out of order, so I've included captions.
