Finally, February

In looking at my January blog posts, I'd like to mention that I did indeed get 4 posts in.  So, even though it was within a week, instead of the month, there were still four exciting posts to read.  Hee hee.

We're are officially into February.  Today we created solar s'mores in our Unit of Inquiry.  Hee hee hee.  I hear it is something stupid like -48 back home with wind chill.  I don't suppose you will be making solar s'mores any time soon.  Brr.  That is just crazy. Please stay safe and stay warm.

This has been my first full week back at the gym.  It has been really great.  I feel tired, but energized at the same time.  Last night I did some boxing and kick boxing.  It might have been a little too much because by the time I got home, my foot was rather sore and needed to be iced, but this morning I woke up and it feels just fine and dandy.  Moderation - my latest life lesson.

Monday marks the half-way point in our school year.  To celebrate we are going to have a fraction pot luck at lunchtime.  Not sure how it will work out.  Maybe it will be a matter of how items are cut.  You know, a lasagna being cut into sixteenths or a cake being cut into eights.  It will be a lot of fun I think.

Well, Monday has come and gone. Our fraction day was really fun.  We had a good chat with the kids as they picked their snacks from the very well suited snack table.  We had everything from cheesecake (divided into 12ths) to crackers and laughing cow cheese!  It was a fun way to celebrate a very special landmark in our school year.  In the infamous words of Bon Jovi, "Oh, we're halfway there!"

Monday night was another first for me in Indonesia.  I attended my first Superbowl party.  There were red and gold guys called the 49ers and purple and white guys called the Ravens.  As it turns out, the Ravens won (in spite of their poor color choice - Ravens, as I recall are black, not purple).  The first half of the game was really a snooze.  The Ravens were definitely in control of the game.

The half time show didn't disappoint.  Again, there was oodles to talk about: The costuming, the dancing, the singing, the staging and of course, the Destiny's Child reunion.  What excitement!

The second half is where all the excitement happened.  There was a power outage, a 30 minute delay and then I went home to bed!  I know, I am not exactly the life of the Superbowl party, but it was a lot to take in on one's first attempt.  I was happy to hear that the 49ers had a great second half, even though they still didn't win.  In the end, as all good football, it came down to the wire (as I read the next morning).

All in all, it was a grand celebration.  Perhaps next year will mark my second, annual Superbowl party.  Maybe I'll even be able to host a Grey Cup party!  Now that would be more excitement than any of us could handle!

As I write, it is Thursday morning. Next week, I will be visiting the second grade classes to share with them about how I remember important events in my life using my blog.  It will be a fun and rewarding experience.  They are a great group of students.  I had the chance to work with them a little bit when they were preparing for their assembly.  They sang a fun little Ke$ha remix about plants.  It was super cute!

Sunday marks Chinese New Year.  This afternoon we will see a traditional Lion Dance.  I am looking forward to it.  I am all decked out in red in celebration of Chinese New Year.

I'll be home in just a few short days (well, to be honest, the days seem to be taking forever, but I am confident that I will eventually be home)

Until then...

Hi, Ty,
What fun with fractions! Wish I had been there - fractions were never that much fun when iI was in school as a kid - or a teacher!
Our real, interesting winter continues. Warms up, colds down, wind blows, fog swirls, ice slips. Brace yourself! Wonderful figure skating to watch, even though I could do without the Olympic hype starting a whole year ahead.
Keeping busy makes time fly by so that's my answer. Another SSO with your Mom this weekend - SSO at the Oscars. Should be fun and relaxing.
Safe travels!
Love, Lynn
