The Adventures of Grover and Tylene: On the eve of the eve of a trip to Dubai!

Hard to believe in just a few short (or long...depending on how the holiday goes) sleeps, February will be gone. I have a few alliterative expletives that I could use to describe my February in Kuwait, but instead, I've decided to talk about fun and exciting things...upcoming adventures.

As I write, it is late on Monday night...okay, it's only 9:30, but I'm really pooped, so it feels much later. My day was spent at school (duh! I am a teacher...where else would I be). It was Day 4, which means only ONE prep. It's such a hardship when you're accustomed to two or three hours a day to have only one hour. The day went by without too many headaches. After school was my club activity - Tongue Fu! Fighting bullying using positive words instead of beating the crappola out of someone. After Tongue Fu, I began 2 hours of tutoring. When all was said and done, it was about a 12 hour day. I came home, made a grilled cheese sandwich for supper (which is NOT on the weekly menu, but a good filler when I am too tired to do anything else and too absent minded to take a freezer meal out of the freezer).

Monday evening, however, is a great place to be right now. As fate would have it (and Kuwaiti National Holidays) tomorrow is my last day of work this week. It is also a Day Five (two hours of prep). Count in an assembly in the morning, a recess break, DEAR time and a math assessment, it should be a good day!

Wednesday morning will have me experiencing National Day as I make my way to the Airport to flee Kuwait as the festivities unfold. From what I've been told, it's a long weekend of silly string, foam, fire crackers, and loud, rowdy people. National Day and Liberation Day (in honour of the day the Iraqi invasion ended) is a huge celebration. Perhaps next year I'll stick around...or maybe not. Regardless, I think I'll get to experience enough of it.

Dubai is the official stop. It's gonna be money well spent. I have a student who's sister had lived in Dubai while attending university. She's made a list of all the places to check out. It will be a relaxing time...but I am sure I will take in one or two sights while there.

In hindsight, I would say that one of the most memorable moments of the week past has been the great Saskatoon Berry debate. You see, it would appear that my friend from California and my friend from Ontario doubt the reality of the Saskatoon. A phone call to mom still didn't have the two of them convinced. Some people try to smuggle alcohol back into Kuwait. I'm gonna do my darnedest to get some Saskatoons here in the fall!

Anywho, nothing too exciting as of yet. However, I didn't want to get out of the tradition of a weekly blog entry. Accountability, I tell you!

Those who are back from your February adventures...I hope it was a glorious time. Those who have yet to experience an adventure in February...it's almost over - better get to it. I trust you'll be on the edge of your seat waiting to hear all about our trip to Dubai. Until then, we'll be signing off.

Much love...

G & T

ty,

My dad has been to Dubai and he loved it (well he took in the horse race track - of course he would like it!). I hope you have a great trip - and to your non believing friends - SASKATOONS do exist - they are my favorite!!!

hey cuz - what a strange thing not to believe in! Maybe your friends know them as serviceberries, or June berries. (A Saskatoon by any other name would taste as sweet...) Have a ball in Dubai!
