With all of my free time...

Well, here we are again - another week into life in Indonesia and somehow I've missed another blog.  I think I might need to put an alarm on my iPad that reminds me when I should be blogging so as to ensure that blogs happen on a regular basis.  You see, I just have so much free time that I get carried away doing other things like washing my laundry and making my lunch - oh wait a minute, I have a nanny...what the hell have I been doing?

In a nutshell, my life this year seems to be overflowing with unnecessary stress.  Work stress has been far more than I could have imagined.  I am hoping in the coming weeks that stress will start to dissipate and I can focus on the more common parts of teaching - you know, my students, and planning and grading and report cards.  Wait, I don't think the stress will dissipate after all.  However, I'm hoping some of the pressures from the Outer Limits (ha, I'm so clever) will!

I must say amidst all this stressiness, I am having a great time with my kids.  We're currently working on a unit in which we're exploring the impact of timeless stories on our lives.  Our kids are thoroughly engaged and doing some really great work.  They are loving our read aloud which will serve as their summative assessment task (they are going to write their own ending for the story).  They are also going to spend some time over the next few weeks developing scripts for some of their favorite scenes from the book.  We'll turn them into little vignettes.  Picture it: little vignettes like the Canada Heritage Moments, but for different scenes from Loser by Jerry Spinelli (fabulous read, if you have some spare time, pick it up)

This week was quite exciting.  It is the second week without crutches (although the crutches are still hanging out in the storage room at home - think I'll take them back to school at the start of next week if we have a smooth weekend.  I also went back to the gym on Monday.  Now, don't get all excited.  I worked out with my trainer.  The most work on my feet that I did was stand while I did upper body free weights.  Oh, and I used my toes when I was planking.  All in all it was super successful. I  felt great to be back in that routine.  Now, I didn't go Tuesday (I swam instead) and today (Wednesday) is my day off.  I will swim again on Thursday and return to my trainer on Friday.  Then a weekend off might have me ready to attempt a pump class on Tuesday...maybe...hopefully...but I won't push my luck.

This past weekend, we had a great event - Girls Night In.  To make a long story short (and because what happens at Girls Night In, stays at Girls Night In), there were 16 of us.   We had a rockin' good time.  Even broke out some karaoke.  I am a geek - so much so that I could make it happen.  Hee hee.  was a really nice time.  I was glad to play hostess!

I guess the other really exciting news is that the rainy season is upon us.  The first rainfall was last Thursday night.  It was loverly to listen to.  I fell asleep as I listened to the rain (it was just after 8 p.m. - I am lame).  Others took to the street to dance in the rain. Now, though, it seems to be even more humid than ever, and although it's supposed to get cooler, I think we're in for a hot and humid October.  Please keep in mind when I say "get cooler" I don't mean "get to the point where you feel something other than hot and sticky when you go outside"  At least I don't think so.

And on that note, I have a batch of brownies to pull from the oven before I head across the road for Downton Abbey.  If you haven't seen it yet, download it and start watching.  Seasons 1 & 2 are available on iTunes.  Yes, that was a paid (not really) commercial advertisement!

Miss you all very much.  We should be down to 10 weeks until I'm home rather soon...like maybe as of Saturday, 10 weeks until I'm home.  That means 10 mani/pedi/massage or reflex combinations.  I have a very difficult life.

Love to you all

Ty
