Well, it's hard to believe September is over and October is upon us. While it is just the second week of October, before long it will be half over and then it will be November. Yes, it is true, even in Indonesia, the months follow the same progression and time passes, albeit slowly.
You know that crazy-paced start of the school year that tends to wind down by now. Well, I don't think anyone has informed the crazy-paced life of school that it's time to slow down. Although it is only October, exhaustion would be a good word to describe how we're feeling. No, it's not just because of a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend. In fact, exhausted has been a pretty consistent way of life. I am really hoping things slow down a bit, though I'm not holding my breath. I did speak with my superintendent about the possibility of moving into the middle school next year. I am not holding my breath for that either, but as my director in Damascus used to say, what's the harm in making an inquiry.
It's officially Tuesday in Saskatchewan. I hope Rider fans are revelling in yet another Saskatchewan game. I checked out the standings and although Calgary and Saskatchewan are technically tied, it would appear that Saskatchewan is in the Number 2 spot. Whoot whoot. Here's hoping a great season continues. And to my dear uncle who doubted the green and white, all I have to say is "neener neener neener!!!" Hee hee hee.
Thanksgiving in Surabaya was a good time. While having lunch on Friday (or maybe Thursday) there was a little "turkey talk". On Saturday, I set out for my weekly massage/pampering routine and decided if I were able to locate all the fixin's for a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner, then I would host one. Shopping was a success: with the exception of turnip and mini marshmallows for apple salad, we had all we needed for a very yummy dinner. I had a crowd of eight (and likely enough food for 8 more). It was a low key evening, but I enjoyed every minute that I got to spend with friends. There is something special about those little "home moments". On Monday, following family tradition, I made a turkey pot pie. It was a little like the loaves and fishes. My 1 cup of gravy was easily converted into two smaller casserole dishes of pot pie. I only had about 1/2 the shortening I needed AND didn't have buttermilk, but for those who are interested, butter and a little whipping cream make for really tasty baking powder biscuits. Yummy! I gave one of the casseroles to my nanny and she shared it with some of the other ladies who work in housing. She even had some pumpkin pie. I think she's wondering what the heck to do with herself since I have enough left overs to beat with a stick and she doesn't need to make me supper. I have shared left overs with other people in housing, so with the exception of turkey stock and a little potato and stuffing, I'm down to about 2 more meals of left overs. Then there will be most delicious soup!
This week has been a good one...although it's only Tuesday. Wednesday is when the week tends to fall to hell. At any rate, today was day #2 completely crutch-free. I am really hoping to be back at the gym next week - even if that just means a few pump classes and some work outs with my trainer I will be okay with that. I just find that I really need to get out of my apartment in the evenings. It is a long stretch between the time I come home and the time I go to bed. Thankfully, I am getting oodles of sleep! What else does one do when one isn't taking university classes! You can only play songpop so long.
Okay - so that was a really long rambling of nothing in particular. I just figured I should get something posted before people thought I'd forgotten my blog address again. It's only 11ish weeks until I'm home for Christmas - oh mylanta...I can almost count that on my fingers! Whoot whoot.
Love to you all
Ty
