It's been one week...

Well, I've officially been back to work for a week, and what a week it's been.  It's been a good week - don't get me wrong, but a very busy one.  There's something about the first week of school that leaves you feeling as though you've been working 18 hour days.  I've been rather unproductive this weekend, doing little more than resting on my big comfy couch and watching episodes of Big Bang Theory.  Today, I've also started buns, made lentil soup and will get around to cookies or some other sort of goodies for my kids tomorrow.  That will first require a trip to the grocery store - I'm out of flour...again.

I'm somewhat apprehensive about teaching fourth grade, although the first week has really gone well, so hopefully we'll have another good week.  If I take things week by week and try not to get too far ahead of myself, I'm sure that I will have a great year.  I have 12 students in my class - 6 boys and 6 girls.  They are a really sweet group of kids - and I think we'll have a fantastic year.

My apartment is really starting to feel more "homey".  Thanks to my 7 bags that I brought back, as well as some art that my friend Angela passed along and some furniture bits that I bought from friends who moved at the end of the last school year, I am starting to feel a little more at home.  While I still don't have all my trinkets, I have enough to make me feel like I actually live here.  Oh, and Rose, my nanny, was a total sweetheart and got me some plants over the summer.  It's really neat how much a few plants can make a difference in making a house feel more homey!

In addition to nesting, I've been doing a little baking since I've been back.  Buns have been a weekend project.  For whatever reason, the first rise seems to take forever.  I'm not sure what that is about...but it's just the way it is, I guess.  They worked out in the end last weekend, and I'm sure they will be fine this weekend.  I'll get back into the habit of baking for my class as well.  Between baking and attending regular work outs at the gym, hopefully I will keep busy and the desire to be back home will be a little less.  Christmas vacation will be here soon enough.

Sadly, I don't have a lot more to report.  We'll see what the next week brings!  Until then, I hope you're all doing well.  Blog with you soon!!!

Hi, Ty,
Second try to get published after resetting my password! I'm not convinced it's my memory that's failed!
Labour Day weekend is almost over. Did you cheer on the Riders? Now - if they can only remember how winning goes.
We made good use of the mostly summery weather to continue painting exterior trim which involves replacing some wood trim and stripping the ugly red-orange paint off the aluminum screen/storm window frames.
I'm officially back at work tomorrow. G is still mowing grass which takes a minimum of 8 hours a week. And getting in hay for winter feeding. We have 5 piglets to see through winter along with cattle and sheep. I keep asking G, "Can you say 'retirement?' !!"
Enjoy baking buns - that's one of my Saturday rituals, too. And enjoy your wee class of 12 students!
Lots of love, Lynn
