Today our school hosted a walk a thon in support of a local charity called Cleft Care. Now, I am all about walk a thons. I mean, how many times have I participated in the Terry Fox Run? However, starting the walk first thing in the morning, when it is already 30ish degrees and then needing to function for the rest of the day, it is no wonder my little gremlins were perfect angels today.
It was a good walk. I did get a sunburn (shocking) but all the desert dwelling I've done has sort of prepared me for the hot...not so much the humidity, but the hot. And really, I've been fairly lucky. It's been mild since I've arrived. I guess if you think 30s are mild temperatures (the humidity usually bumps up the "feels like" temps to the 40s) Meh, it's all good.
Lots has happened over the course of the weekend. I have officially become hooked on a BBC production called Downton Abbey. If you haven't seen it, you must. Download it RIGHT NOW from iTunes. IT's that good. Aside from that, I finished my paper on Narrative Research design and why it relates well on a study of third culture kids! Finishing my paper means I am FINISHED my course work until July. You have no idea how excited I am at such a prospect. I just need some time to let my poor brain unwind. However, I do wonder how I will spend my "free time" Oh I know, I will go take pictures when I would have been working on my class. Whoo hoo.
The gym also takes up a few hours a day...not that I'm working out for a few hours a day (but some days I am). Instead it is more a matter of the getting there, getting home and actual work out. AND I've come to the non-so-startling realization that if I take the time to walk on the treadmill for a half hour after a combat or pump class, my muscles don't hurt nearly as much the next day. Hmmm, imagine that!
The gym has been good for me. It breaks up the monotony of the evening, forces me to go out and meet other people and keeps me healthier. I am thankful for the good instructors and friendly atmosphere. People are supportive and encouraging. I stick out like a sore thumb. I'm a relative giant comparatively. It's quite funny. I nearly laughed my ass off when I trainer needed to measure how tall I was - she wasn't tall enough to reach the tape measure to the top of my head! Ha ha ha.
Speaking of sticking out like a sore thumb, I went to Easter Mass on the weekend. It was loverly. Nothing like church experiences in Kuwait or Damascus. However, again, I had the feeling of being a giant. I must say, as you're standing towering above the people around you, you have a pretty good vantage point to check out the action. Equally amusing is how easy it is to find other "tall" people that you know.
And so ends another exciting (or not-so exciting...sorry, I'm tired) entry for the week. Will head home, make some chilly (chille, chile) I never know how to spell it. You know the meat stuff with beans and stuff! Then I'll head to the gym for a workout and hopefully be in bed by 9...hopefully!
Until next time...
Tylene
