The children are coming; the children are coming!

Well, it's the eve before the first day of school.  I have been busy trying to get my classroom set up and get accustomed to the procedures of my new school.  Sadly, my shipment has yet to arrive.  I am hopeful that it will be here before the weekend.  However, at the same time, it is difficult to deal with my shipment and a class full of students on the first day of school.  It would appear that there is no longer a good time for my shipment to arrive.

The first day activities are planned.  We'll read the story The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein and then each student will identify the special gifts that they will bring to our classroom community.  We'll also be creating a culture quilt (an assignment I did in Kuwait for International Day).  Students will complete some research about their cultural heritage and then complete a square to our quilt.

As of today, I have 12 students in my class; 6 boys an 6 girls.  It will be a different experience with such a small number of students, but I imagine that there will be many thing we will have the opportunity to do.

Internet at home isn't as efficient as I'd like, thus I haven't been able to post my pictures yet.  However, I will continue to try to do that just as soon as I can.  Some exciting things from the past week include dinner at a loverly restaurant on top of the mountain.  It was a breath-taking view.  I've also been working hard to really get more familiar with my surroundings.  I have been walking to different venues.  Tonight I made a trip to Norma's - the German Store.  I bought groceries (which were delivered to my apartment).  I also bought a 6 pack of Corona.

Last week, in preparation for the kitties' arrival I did some walking as well to find a different store that carries kitty litter. It was a good walk.  I think that I will be able to avoid having to deal with the huge grocery store that I'm not particularly fond of.

I guess that's really all I have to report.  In about 10 days, we will be celebrating Eid.  Stay tuned for reflections on the first days of school and the upcoming weekend.

Until next time...

Tylene
