Another day another dinar

Well, we're into the home stretch at AIS. This week our Grade Fives will be honoured as they prepare to leave elementary school and head to Middle School. I must say that trying to put things into perspective when it comes to leaving Elementary and not having a full blown "graduation" takes considerable effort. We try to simple. We're almost to simple. I hope it will end up being simple.

The last week is a blur. Between the gym and bronchitis I have been busy busy busy. Coughing takes up a lot of time...especially when one is trying to sleep. A week into a two week round of antibiotics and I'm starting to feel more like myself. School has been super busy as well...report cards are due next week. Student Led Conferences are next week. We need to do running records before the middle of next week. We have our farewell. We have this, that and the other thing. In the swing of it all, we also have our regular units to get through. I don't remember the end of the school year last year (as I wasn't here) but this time seems just so much busier (and often unnecessarily so) than even teaching back home. On top of all of that is the need to move home. Thankfully, I've opted to spend the money and have the movers pack me up. They will be in to pack on June 5th or 6th.

I have an interview this week with Damascus Community School. It's a true international school in Syria. It's been closed since 2008, but the school community is still very strong. There is a lot of excitement about it opening. I am hoping the interview turns out to be fruitful. It will just mean the shippers don't have to ship things quite so far :)

And I guess that's all the news to share. I'm meeting with a personal trainer now 2 days a week. In addition to my other classes it has me at the gym for about 9 hours a week. Last week the bronchitis had me cut back to about 6 hours. This week between school craziness and tutoring I will probably get to about 7 hours. I sure am going to miss my time at the Corniche. I am still trying to get a wee bit of sun, but between dust storms and crappy days, they are few and far between. Today is a sunny and beautiful (HOT HOT HOT) day. I had duty. Might even have a tan. If only I weren't wearing long pants, my frog-belly-white legs could have some colour too.

Will try to write early next week. Hopefully I will have news of a new job to share. Fingers and toes crossed please.

Lots of love from the desert.

Ty

Dear Tylene,
We're back online after more than a week of struggling with a dying computer and shopping for a replacement. What a throw away society we live in!!! All the techies' advice was that the old one (a whole 5 years old!) was not worth the cost of replacing the logic board. I have to admit that I missed email, although I did enjoy phoning people that I would normally have sent an email! Instant gratification, either way.
Baby Jasmyne had another setback last week. She caught some kind of virus which resulted in her right lung collapsing again. So she was shifted back to intensive care until this morning. In ICU they took action rather than waiting for her to get over it on her own. I wish she could stay there and have a nurse attending to her constantly. But even more I wish she could move home so she needs to get past needing the ICU.
It is as hot as summer this week. We must have missed Spring. S is planting garden as I type, so should go get busy out there myself. We are celebrating G's birthday this weekend with Saturday night burgers and birthday cake. Looking forward to seeing everyone!
And to seeing you in just a few weeks! Fingers and toes crossed.
Love, Lynn
