Sick in bed! Quick, send kitties

I have come to the sad realization that being sick in bed, all by yourself, is just boring.  I miss my kitties.  Henry and Ella are excellent care takers when one is sick.  Well, okay, they don't so much as "take care" but "comfort".  There is something about a 14 pound cat curling up by your head (or on your head) as you try to sleep while another little one chases your toes.  Yet, alas, here I am without either kitty to comfort me.  I do, however, have a wonderful house lady who checks in periodically to see if I need anything like tea with lemon and ginger or lozenges or tissues!  I shall overcome!

Okay, so maybe I'm being a little overdramatic.  I have come to learn that not having a voice isn't so bad when my throat doesn't hurt and i don't have a fever, but all three combined just sucks.  Yes, that is the wordage I am choosing to use at this time - sucks.

Enough about feeling crappy, what else can I tell you.  Hmmm, this past Friday was Festival of Nations at the school.  It was a combined 40th Anniversary celebration.  Essentially what that means is you can find a piece of styrofoam and turn it into something (like a kangaroo, boat or elaborate backdrop) you must do so.  Sort of difficult to think about all the styrofoam that will now fill the landfills.  I did have that thought that maybe a new "biodegradable" type of styrofoam was used, but I'm not thinking so.

Anywho, the Festival of Nations (or FON) was interesting to say the least.  It starts with an international food tasting.  Had food tables and people not been packed into an unairconditioned hallway, I might have enjoyed it, but you all know how I feel about crowds of people.  I'm not sure why the tables were set up where they were, but that is what it was.  Next, came the parade of flags.  All the students line up with their country and parade around the gym before going on to the stage.  To line up with your country, though you have to stand in another unairconditioned hallway for the better part of 20 minutes while everyone gets assembled.  If we can all fit in the hallway, surely we could also all fit in an airconditioned classroom (or one of many classrooms - perhaps a classroom for each country...who knows)  Yes, I am a little bitter about the experience so far.

Following the parade of flags, our director said a few words, there was a cake cutting ceremony and then the entertainment began.  The students did a great job showing off their cultural traditions and their talents.   Some performances that really stand out was a Korean group who did drumming.  It was just fantastic.  Friday turned into a long day (got home about 8:30) but it was, in the end, okay.

The weekend was fairly low-key.  On Saturday I stayed home and just chilled.  Sunday I went for lunch with Angela and the kids and then we all went to a movie.  We saw Mirror Mirror - was very entertaining.  After the movie we went for manis and pedis.  Then I went to the gym.  I missed my pump class, but did an hour of cardio.  Then, Sunday night is when I got sick.  So since then, I've done little more than get out of bed to make tea or toast.  Yesterday (Tuesday) I did go to work, but only because my TA was away.  Hopefully my fever will have taken its leave and I will be back to work tomorrow.

And that is all the excitement in my life right now.  Coming home in just over a month.  Really looking forward to it.

Until next time,

Tylene

Hi cuz! Forgot to tell you, we joined the last century and finally got hi-speed wireless internet on the farm - too exciting!! Now I can view your pictures without waiting nine years for them to load - what beautiful country you're seeing, awesome! You should have walked on the bridge, scaredy cat.
Hope you are feeling better soon. Hugs, Susan
