On the eve of the eve of Thanksgiving Dinner 2010

Well I am just home from round two of Thanksgiving Day grocery shopping.  When I think about how much money I've spent in the last two weeks it's a little bit scary, but what the hey - what else will I do with the money if I don't spend it, right!

After school today I picked up my turkey, potatoes and carrots.  I also have a gigantic roasting pan (that actually fits in my fridge) to roast my turkey. Now, the turkey isn't as big as it was supposed to be.  It was supposed to be 12 kilos, but it's only 9 kilos, so I am hoping that, as with the fishes and loaves, Jesus can make the turkey go on and on and on.

This evening I bought the rest of the good needed...minus the turnip.  I have one last place to look for a turnip...that will have to wait until Saturday though.  I did, however, buy about a million lemons - I am making 3 lemon meringue pies from scratch as well as lemonade (that might just get spiked with a little vodka)  I also bought the last of the dishes that I could possibly ever need, after all, when will I need more than 6 pie plates.  I am very excited about the pie plates I bought though, they are very deep, which will make it so much easier to put the meringue on top of the lemon pies.

I spent yesterday making bread and buns. I learned a few important things.  First, I make yummy bread and buns.  Secondly, I will need to make bread and buns every single weekend from now until I die to get them to look as good and taste as good as mom's!  There's something not quite right still, but I'm going to knock that up to humidity and altitude (am I at a different altitude?  I'm close to a mountain!!!)

Tomorrow a friend of mine, Lindsey, will come and help with things such as potato peeling and carrot chopping.  I have enough space in my monstrous fridge to do all the prep work the day before.  I will also bake a cheesecake (which needed to be modified because I can't find frozen cranberries) and pies.  I am resorting to pre-mixed pie filling, which will have to suffice because until today, I couldn't find a pumpkin anywhere. And what I've found are called "red squashes"  I'm not sure it's a pumpkin, but it kind of looks like one - it's just not the bright orange I'm used to.

So ya, all is well in the oldest city on earth. In my shopping adventures I found some nice but kitty friendly towels that I will be able to use as furniture covers.  I also bought a new pillow.  It's supposed to guarantee a good night's sleep.  Considering the busy busy week I've had and the busy weekend ahead, I am looking forward to testing it out.  Things get started here tomorrow at 10 - maybe earlier if my pillow has me so well rested by then.

Talk to you soon!  Will write following the really big day!

Tylene
