The Adventures of Grover and Tylene: Dust on the bottle...and the table...and the window...and the...

Greetings all,

I'm back...Tylene. After that last posting, I'm going to need to keep a much closer eye on that sneaky blue critter I call my travel companion. Seriously! What was he thinking posting a blog. I'm fairly certain that there are legal ramifications to such behaviour. Oh well! I guess I see his point. If I were travelling with someone I too would want to have a chance to share my thoughts of the experience. Perhaps I'll give him one blog a month to write. I'll take that up with Grover this evening.

Onto the events of the day. Just finished spending about 30 minutes singing with the Grade 2 class. They are in charge of the assembly next week. As it turns out, the song my class and I wrote back in the fall is quite popular. The school has adopted it as the "school song". The little people are so excited to share it with the school...to be the leaders. Maybe I need to spend more time in the little people land. They're fun. If nothing else, I will leave my mark with the school song. I must admit, it's kind of cool as each grade level prepares to lead the song...there are now about 500 students who know the song. Standing at the front and playing guitar as a group of students lead a song that you wrote; hearing the rest of the students sing it too; kind of a surreal experience.

Today is a red day. Didn't start that way, but from the time I went to the computer lab and returned to class (45 minutes) we went from a clear, cloudless day to orange skies and dust storms. My allergies were just starting to turn. Now, I am back to not breathing. I will leave my mark on Kuwait with every foot print...so much dust, no matter where I step, I leave a mark.

No need to go on about the tragedies of red days. They are a part of life here in Kuwait. Apparently we've had another very dry winter...which is strange because it seems as though we've had a lot of rain...for the desert.

This week has been the celebration of the Prophet Mohammed's birthday. The school year calendar was published last spring so we were off Sunday in honour of the holiday. Then the ministry declared Thursday to be the day of observation. Gladly, we have a teacher work day as students are off. A three day week is okay with me...once in a while.

Our school is putting on the production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The show runs this weekend. Our classes will go this afternoon for a preview of the show. It will mean a very quick afternoon. I hope the children take advantage of getting to go to the theatre...not something that happens very often in Kuwait.

The weekend will also see family carnival day at Shaab Park. It's an amusement park just a few blocks from the school. The school uses it as a fund raiser..this year the funds will go towards elementary playground equipment. I might suggest the money be used for creating an elementary playground, but I suppose equipment will be a good alternative.

The last week has been a busy one. With the dust storms we've been having, my allergies have been a mess. As such, I missed my trip to Bahrain. I'll have to make it out there sometime before my time in the middle east is done.

I guess I should sign off...I've started to ramble a wee bit. Have official notice of flight times home...leaving June 12th early in the morning. Very exciting. Just 14 weeks until I'll be back on the beautiful, Saskatchewan Prairie...how I am looking forward to that!

Wishing you all marvelous March. Talk to you soon.

You have written their school song?? That is so amazing Tylene, I would love to hear it. It would be so heart warming I am sure to hear everyone singing what you wrote. WOW!! Well by time you arrive back here on the prairies I am hoping that we will have said good bye to winter and welcomed some warm weather for you. As of right now I don't think it will come! Snow, snow and more snow is all we have seemed to have. We have had 3 days of indoor recesses because of the cold and wind... I bet you miss those days!
